Carl Hansen & Søn
After opening his first workshop in 1908, master carpenter Carl Hansen succeeded, ten years later, in turning his studio into a real factory. His art and passion for wood led him to experiment with innovative shapes and types, specializing in the creation of bedroom furnitures and making himself known throughout Denmark, thus giving life to the "Danish Modern" movement. For this reason, the most significant Danish designers (Hans J. Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Børge Mogensen) have designed most of Carl Hansen's products.
Carl Hansen counts more than 200 woodworking carpenters, with a focus on sustainability, as is the Nordic tradition. The wood artisanship for decor is the beating heart of the Danish company, which claims to handcraft at least two-thirds of the produced pieces, including the legendary Wishbone Chair. In order to reproduce this chair, born in 1950 from the ingenuity and handcraft of Hans J. Wegner, more than 100 steps are needed, most of which are made by hand.
