THE HISTORY OF AN ICON
Designed by Gerrit T. Rietveld in 1935, it is based on the values of comfort and leisure. It immediately became an icon of the neo-plastic movement and the Dutch architect’s experimental vision.
THE FABRIC
The design of the armchair is reflected in the innovative manufacture of the Boxblocks fabric which is composed by 8 coloured threads mixed 2 at a time to create 19 colours that are patterned to trace the armchair shape. Created using a high-tech, computer-controlled Jaquard weaving machine, it has a unique, perfectly balanced geometrical design where the triangles are never repeated.
