A patio house dating back to the 18th century, an ancient and charming structure with typical features of buildings from the past: volumes with unusual shapes and corners that are hardly ever at 90°. A space on two levels, both complex and fascinating, developed around a bright central courtyard.

the patio as the center of the house
The starting point was to maximize the value of the internal courtyard, towards which the entire ground floor faces through large pre-existing openings. To achieve this, the idea of the AD Dal Pozzo designers and architects was to create a neutral box in which to place modern and contemporary furnishings, also incorporating some flashes of color. The patio, furnished with outdoor furniture, becomes an extension of the living area during the warmer season.
From the entrance, it is possible to see through the courtyard to the dining room, which is located at the opposite end of the entrance.Only a light bookshelf divides the living room from the kitchen without blocking the view. The same concept applies to the staircase leading to the upper floor, redesigned with maximum simplicity: a simple metal structure with a glass railing to appear invisible.

The linear kitchen was custom-made by the AD Dal Pozzo Project Department to make the best use of the space; the absolute white of the compositional elements contrasts beautifully with the natural wood storage wall. Next to it, an arch divides the kitchen from the dining area, where a Tibetan cupboard with vibrant decorations, purchased by the homeowners during a trip, adds an unexpected exotic touch.

Patio house on two levels
On the upper floor, the rooms are more intimate. The interplay of materials creates different atmospheres: while the ground floor, dedicated to daytime activities, features lighter interior design elements (such as the Venetian-style floor), the sleeping area has natural oak parquet – recalling the original and restored ceiling beams – and, in the bathroom, there is a thin stoneware floor, in a relaxing dark gray.
All choices have created a minimal and comfortable atmosphere at the same time, thanks also to the use of ancient woods (for the kitchen snack counter and the dining table) and wallpapers that become like modern frescoes, bringing movement and tactile effects to the wall surfaces.
